Old Glory French Review

The French

Old Glory does not post many of the pics for 10mm miniatures that it sells. Hopefully My Collection will be useful. This page will cover the French

Old Glory General Notes for the French

In general I highly recommend old glory, I don't have anything negative to say so far, but you should be aware of these things:

  1. Cannons for the french only have one carriage and different barrels, i.e. medium, light and heavy guns will have the same foot print
  2. French line infantry (guard, ligne...) will come on stands of 5, that are kind of elevated/ Skirmesers do not, and will look tiny unless you add some hills etc... to your base
  3. Many of the Named regiments old glory sells (I'm painting Empress Dragoons atm), come with command. Unfortunately this means 1 set of command figures for (in the Dragoons case 30 models)
  4. You will need clippers and a file, as many of the bases are not smooth

A Note on Proportions

Models are mounted as follows (to work for Blucher and ESR):
  • Infantry Bases 30mm x 30mm
  • Cavalry Bases: 30mm x 20mm
  • Artillary: 20mm x 30mm

Line Infantry (Skirmeshers, Command, Flank Company)

  1. As you can see the skirmishers come of quite a bit shorter, the next round used some wall compound to raise them up.
  2. The flank company comes in shakos
  3. The flags are attached to the command stand and have the design sculpted in
  4. I didn't show the regular line guys as those are pretty well covered on old glorys site
  5. Since French Old Guard Regiments come in packs of 100 with 2 commands (20 stands total)  you can take some of the additional stands and use them as grenadiers instead of buying a flank company

Chausseurs a Cheval (Chausseur and Chausseur Command Packs)

  1. Command comes in a separate bag (3 sets of identical models: Officer, Bugler, Standard Bearer)
  2. The scabbard is sculpted, but I painted over them
  3. The flag is attached, and has no design sculpted, so you must draw it

Foot Artillery (Regular Crews, 12lbers Packs)

  1. As mentioned before carriages are the same regardless of 8pdr 12pdr or 6pdr, only barrel sizes change
  2. There are 5 different poses for the crew 10 of each, which means a crew pack only has 10 guys with swabs and 10 with torches

Hussars (Hussars and Hussar Command)

  1. Command comes in a separate bag (3 sets of identical models: Officer, Bugler, Standard Bearer)
  2. The scabbard is sculpted, but I painted over them
  3. The flag is attached, and has no design sculpted, so you must draw it
  4. Loops are actually sculpted onto the pelisse and dohlman, amazing!

Empress Dragoons

Notes:
  1. This is the empress dragoons set, and came with only one command I didn't any difference between these and the regular dragoons. So I painted one set without command, and will add more "regular" dragoons in my next order

Old Guard Grenadiers
Notes:

  1. These come in bags of 20 stands of 5 with 2 command
  2. These are painted up as Prince Eugene's Italian Guard
  3. Going to use the extra guard as flank companies in my Italian contingent for Prince Eugene
  4. They line up, and rank up well with line infantry, and the elevation of the bases is also very close

Carabiniers in my opinion the most beautiful uni's ever.
